Towards a genuine 7th Environment Action Programme
Based on an evaluation of the 6th Environment Action Programme (EAP), this initiative will support the Belgian Presidency’s determination to improve environmental governance at a European level.
The purpose of the conference is to prepare the programme that will succeed the 6th Environment Action Programme (EAP).The initiative intends to highlight the determination of the Belgian Presidency to improve environmental governance at the level of the European Union.
The conference will focus more specifically on the impact of different Community strategies and also on the role of these strategies in the European decision-making process.These strategies include in particular the 6th EAP, the strategy for Sustainable Development, the Lisbon strategy and thematic strategies.
The speakers (European and national) will also discuss the challenge of “better instruments”, in particular legal, economic and voluntary instruments, with a view to improved regulation.In addition they will debate the role of local and regional authorities in future environmental policy.
