Theater der Welt
Theater der Welt is the most important festival in Germany in the field of music and the performing arts. In the year when Essen, together with the entire Ruhr area, was declared European Capital of Culture, the Ruhr Metropolis provides a unique platform where global issues are on offer in conjunction with art, politics and identity. Frie Leysen is the festival director.
There is a strong Flemish presence at the Theater der Welt festival in Essen and Mühlheim/Ruhr as part of Ruhr2010. The programme includes three performances by Flemish companies (one performance by Het Toneelhuis, two performances by Berlin and a performance/installation by Kris Verdonck. The Flemish Frie Leysen is the festival director.
