Symposium: Airport environmental management and the Walloon model for sustainable development

Shed light on the measures, unique in Europe, taken by the Walloon government to control growth in regional airport activity.
The symposium will be an opportunity to showcase the Walloon model, which strikes a delicate balance between economic development and maintaining quality of life for residents.
After a brief presentation on the economic impact of airport development in Wallonia (layouts, growth figures and potential, impact on employment and GDP), the symposium will address the issue of environmental management of this growth.
A presentation will be given on the pioneering resident support policy in place in Wallonia, along with all of the measures taken to limit the environmental footprint of the Liège and Charleroi airports, via optimisation of flight trajectories, noise nuisance monitoring (DIAPASON network), and efforts agreed by the airport directors to create and manage infrastructure and operations on site.
A talk will also be given on synergies created amongst the various modes of transport, with the aim of sustainable development of passenger and cargo transport (CAREX Project – synergy with railways).
