Sustainable Land Use Conference
This conference forms the public session of the annual meeting of the European Environment and Sustainable Development Advisory Councils (EEAC). This year, the conference theme is sustainable land use. De EEAC feels that this topic is still being underestimated in the European debate about sustainability and the environment. Through this conference, the EEAC hopes to improve the quality of the advice concerning land use provided to national and regional policy makers.
After the opening and welcome to the participants, two keynote speakers will introduce the conference proper by situating the central topic of “sustainable land use”. This both from an academic and a policy perspective.
Afterwards, participants can join one of four breakout sessions: Sustainable land use as a global issue; Instruments for sustainable land use; Agriculture and sustainable land use; and finally Governance for sustainable land use. Results from the breakout sessions will be presented in plenary session afterwards, to be discussed by the participants.
To round off the conference, Environment Commissioner Potocnik will present the general vision of the European Commission, after which a number of stakeholders will take part in a panel discussion on sustainable land use.
This conference is organised by the Environment and Nature Council of Flanders (FENC/Minaraad), in close cooperation with the Walloon Environmental Council for Sustainable Development (CWEDD) and the Belgian Federal Council for Sustainable Development (FRDO-CFDD).
