Scientific Advice Working Party
The Scientific Advice Working Party (SAWP) is a Working Party of the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP), in charge of Scientific Advice and Protocol Assistance for orphan medicinal products.
The SAWP co-ordinates the provision of Scientific Advice and Protocol Assistance and brings forward to the CHMP and the Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP) an integrated view as regards quality, non-clinical, clinical safety and efficacy, relating to the development of medicinal products and orphan medicinal products, and as regards significant benefit relating to orphan medicinal products.
The meeting involves the participation of representatives from the National Competent Authorities (NCA’s), including European Economic Area Competent Authorities (Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein), the European Commission and the European Medicines Agency.
The SAWP holds monthly meetings, except for the month of August, at the premises of the European Medicines Agency, based in London. Informal meetings can be organized by the Member State holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
