Rally in the European quarter
Brussels enjoys a unique position as the capital of Europe. However, we have noticed that only a small number of young people in Brussels are aware of what this European presence means for Brussels and what repercussions it will have. That is why, on the occasion of the Belgian presidency, the Brussels-Europe Liaison Office has proposed an exceptional project to the schools: a rally in the European quarter for all students in the final two years of secondary school, with the aim of informing them about 'Europe in Brussels' in a fun atmosphere.
The rally will kick off at the BIP (Brussels Info Place, rue Royale 2-4, 1000 Brussels) where the students will be divided up into groups of 5 to 6 people. Each group will receive a GPS set. This GPS set will guide them through the European quarter and will send them a series of questions and tasks to complete on the theme of ‘Europe in Brussels’. The GPS set will put a time limit on each question/task.
The students will find out the answers to the questions by exploring the area and by reflecting on their knowledge. A variety of tasks will be assigned, putting them in contact with the European Commission and the European Parliament. The rally will finish up at the Europe-Brussels Liaison Office, located at avenue d’Auderghem 63, 1040 Brussels.
Here, a prize will be awarded to the winning group and all students will receive an information kit on what being the capital of Europe means for Brussels.
