Is translation the answer for Europe’s desire to bring its people closer together? The Commission has taken up the challenge of making young Europeans aware of translation studies. At a time when the translating sector has to meet needs that are ever larger, this initiative does not seem to be a pointless challenge!

During the conference held on 28 and 29 September in Ghent, policy makers, experts and people involved in education will meet to think about the role of education in social inclusion.
On the occasion of the first ever ministerial conference on "green jobs", Deputy Prime Minister Joëlle Milquet and European Commissioner László Andor have launched the proposal for a first European plan for the creation of jobs in the "green" sectors and for the "greening" of the economy and the labour market.
An inter-parliamentary meeting was held on 28 September, attended by the European Parliament’s foreign affairs committee and sub-committee for Security and Defence as well as representatives of national parliaments.
