Nowadays, people are more likely to move freely from one country to another within the EU, whether it’s for work, studies, or simply for fun. In this context of increasing mobility, it’s only natural for a certain number of ‘international’ couples to be formed. In any case, the stars in the eyes and butterflies in the stomach of the initial moments can soon be replaced by more technical questions: which legal system will regulate the future marriage of these "sweethearts without borders"? What if there are conficts? Or worse, what about divorce?
Delegates attending the biodiversity conference at Ghent today crystallized their expectations of the international summit to be held at Nagoya in October. They emphasized that only an integrated policy with sufficient resources for co-operation, specific measures, research and communication could hope to succeed in preserving worldwide biodiversity.
In the presence of H.R.H Princess Astrid of Belgium, Catherine Ashton, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the European Commission, and Steven Vanackere, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, co-hosted a high-level conference at the Palais d'Egmont in Brussels today to mark the tenth anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women's Participation in Peace and Security and called for its full and speedy implementation.
In a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs Steven Vanackere assured his colleague that Pakistan will remain high on the European agenda. "It is the intention of the European Union not only to respond to immediate needs, but also to develop a strategic approach to the situation in Pakistan", Vanackere said.
On 8 and 9 September 2010 in Brussels, the colloquium “Creativity, Culture and Innovation: finding new links” was held, one of the official events of the “Culture and Audiovisual” programme of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, organised by the French-speaking Community of Belgium with the support of the European Commission. On this occasion, Fadila Laanan, Minister for Culture and Audiovisual, welcomed more than 400 players from the sphere of Culture.
