Yves Leterme meets the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk

Prime Minister Yves Leterme visited Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warshau. They discussed the forthcoming presidencies of the two countries in the European Union.
Belgium will take over on 1 July 2010 and Poland on 1 July 2011. With his Belgian counterpart, the head of Polish government discussed the financial situation in the EU. “We talked about the necessity of full integration of the economic and social policy within the framework of the European Union, without a division into the euro and outside-euro zone,” remarked Donald Tusk. Prime Minister Yves Leterme underscored the importance of mutual consultations during the Belgian and Polish presidencies in the EU. “We have excellent bilateral relations and increasingly important economic ties,” he remarked. “Owing to its size and geographical position, Poland has a special role to play in the European Union. We are all very interested in the views of the Polish government as regards the energy policy and the evolution of states neighbouring on the European Union,” he added. According to Yves Leterme, Belgium recognises questions of the economic order, the strengthening of stability, and economic growth as the priorities of its presidency.
