Steven Vanackere meets colleague Antonio Milososki, Foreign Affairs Minister from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Steven Vanackere today met his colleague Antonio Milososki, Foreign Affairs Minister from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The discussion took place in the framework of the Presidency of the General Affairs Council that Steven Vanackere is taking over from 1 July.
During the autumn, the Union will once again consider the expansion of the European Union. The candidacy of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to join the European Union, dating back to 2005, has been an important subject for discussion between both ministers.
Steven Vanackere has assured Minister Milososki of the Belgian ambition to perform its role as president in a balanced and efficient way. Just a few weeks ago, the EU confirmed at the Sarajevo Conference the perspective for all Western Balkan countries to join the EU. The involvement of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in bringing about the necessary reforms in preparation for its EU membership is very important. Each country has the keys for its future in its own hands and is preparing for the opportunities as well as the challenges that it can expect when it joins the Union.
The Belgian presidency will contribute carefully to bringing together the required elements for the further advancement of the enlargement process in the coming six months.
