Steven Vanackere and Olivier Chastel welcome the Conference on the transposition of European directives

Under the auspices of Steven Vanackere, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Olivier Chastel, Secretary of State for European Affairs, the Belgian Presidency will be hosting a Conference on the transposition of European directives this coming November 22nd and 23rd at the Egmont Palace in Brussels.
Secretary of State Olivier Chastel, Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for the Internal Market and Services and Malcolm Harbour, Chairman of the European Parliament’s Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee will be speakers.
Following up on the conference on the implementation of European law in Member States held under the Czech Presidency in March 2009, the conference in Brussels will cover two topics. These are, on one hand, the “hard tools” available to both the European Institutions and the Member States in the event of a failure in the transposition process and, on the other, the “soft tools” available, that is, the anticipative measures and action that can be taken by the various actors to ensure the completion of transposition.
Steven Vanackere and Olivier Chastel have emphasised the importance of exchanging “good practices” between Member States. In this respect, the new provisions introduced by the Treaty of Lisbon, and the various European initiatives developed for the Single Market, are of great interest to the Member States.
