Spain passes the torch of the Presidency to Belgium

The Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU ended on 30 June this year. Now it is Belgium’s turn to perform this duty for the next six months.
For Brussels, 2 July is therefore a time rich in emotional and symbolic significance. This evening, Spain is passing the torch of the Presidency of the EU to Belgium.
This exchange, a sign of the mutual confidence that the two countries have in each other, is taking place in the magnificent setting of the Château de Laeken, with a performance by the famous baritone José Van Dam.
The event marks the official inauguration of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
