Mission of State Secretary Olivier Chastel to the European Parliament

On 23 and 24 November, State Secretaryfor European Affairs Olivier Chastel will represent the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
In this context, Olivier Chastel will make a statement on behalf of the Council within the framework of the 10th anniversary of the United Nations resolution on women, peace and security. Aside from the plenary session, the rest of the day will be devoted to bilateral contacts with the Presidents of the main political groups. The debate within the hemicycle will focus on the 2011 EU budget as well as the measures taken in connection with the Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo.
The plenary session of 24 November will be devoted to the results of the G20 Summit, the future of the EU/Africa strategic partnership on the eve of the next summit in Africa, and the situation in Western Sahara,…
Together with the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, the State Secretarywill co-sign the legislative acts for publication in the Official Journal. The proposed regulations for the financial supervision package will also be signed during this plenary session.
