Kick-off of the first stage of the European Year of Volunteering 2011 Tour of Europe
This Friday 3 December, Fadila Laanan, Minister for Culture, the Audiovisual Sector, Health and Equal Opportunities of the French-speaking Community of Belgium, Chair of the “Culture and Audiovisual” section of the “Education, Youth and Sport” Council of the European Union within the framework of the Belgian Presidency 2010, Joke Schauvliege, Minister for Culture of the Flemish Community, and Isabelle Weykmans, Minister for Culture of the German-speaking Community, will officially give the signal to start the Belgian stage of the Tour of Europe of the European Year of Volunteering 2011.
The Council of the European Union proclaimed the year 2011 “European Year of Volunteering” (EYV). Objective: make European citizens aware of the concrete contributions of millions of volunteers across the European Union to build a more democratic, fair and responsible society.</p>
Within the framework of the EYV, this December 2010 the European Commission is launching the “European Year of Volunteering Tour”, an interactive tour that will stop in each Member State to make this year more concrete in the eyes of the citizens and to encourage them to become involved in volunteering.
As a kick-off of the EYV 2011 in Belgium, the Flemish, French-speaking and German-speaking Communities of Belgium are hosting an interactive programme of one week, from 3 to 11 December 2010, on the theme of volunteering. This will take place in a large pavilion specifically created for the occasion, set up in Place d'Espagne in Brussels, between the Central Station and the Grand-Place.
