The incoming Belgian Presidency meets with the European Parliament

On 24 June 2010 the incoming Belgian Presidency met Mr Buzek, President of the European Parliament, together with the chairs of the European Parliament’s political groups.
Prime Minister Yves Leterme and those federal, regional and community ministers who are to chair formations of the Council of the European Union presented the Belgian Presidency’s political and legislative priorities. The Prime Minister made a point of stressing the Belgian Presidency’s desire to make the new institutions resulting from the Treaty of Lisbon operational. On this point, the importance of cooperation with Parliament, with the new co-decision procedure, was emphasised. It was also agreed at the meeting that regular informal meetings between the Presidency of the Council and the President of the European Parliament would be organised, in order to optimise management of the legislative timetable. President Buzek hailed the work done in preparation for the incoming Belgian Presidency and welcomed this desire for mutual cooperation.
