Declaration by Steven Vanackere within the General Affairs Council in Brussels

"Today, of course, the General Affairs Council will be preparing for the European Council of Thursday and this is the first Council on which the Foreign Affairs Ministers will be assisting the Prime Ministers and the Presidencies of the governments to discuss how we can make it possible that the foreign policy of the European Union becomes more effective."
"The General Affairs Council of today will be essentially devoted to discuss that matter and we will also have a long discussion with Van Rompuy which will give us state of play on the Task Force proceedings about economical recovery and the way that the European Union has to organize it to make this possible.
These are the mains subjects of course that we hope on the issues that have been left over after Friday like the South Korea issue that we would be to able to see progress and we have been working in the weekend. If not today, I'm convinced that by Thursday it should be possible to make an agreement with South Korea, I think it is in the interest not only of the South Korea but also of the citizens of Europe to create more growth, more wealth and trade. I'm very much convinced that the proposition that we've made is reasonable and it can lead to a good results."
