Come and celebrate Europe

News - 30/06/2010 By matthias.vanhentenryk

On Saturday 3 July, the day after the ceremonial opening of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, you can get your party clothes out of the cupboard! Because Belgium is treating everyone to a unique festival to celebrate this special occasion. An unforgettable evening of entertainment is in store throughout the country and at the heart of Brussels’ European district, including dancing, music, sound and light displays, fireworks and plenty of other surprises, involving numerous Belgian and international artists. Don't miss it!

Belgium dances Europe

The formal opening of the presidency, with a concert by José van Dam, takes place on 2 July. On Saturday 3 July, you come into the picture and can show Europe your best dance moves. From 8 o’clock until 9.30 pm, the whole of Belgium is invited to learn a choreographed dance piece that will be performed simultaneously in twelve Belgian cities (Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Charleroi, Eupen, Ghent, Hasselt, Liege, Leuven, Louvain-la-Neuve, Namur and Tournai). A free dance lesson designed for young and old. Be part of the party and dance along with Belgium!

“I Love EU”

After 22.00 the heart of the European quarter of Brussels is “the place to be”! The European Parliament esplanade and the Place du Luxembourg will set the scene for an exceptional spectacle: I ♥ EU (read “I love you”). Party-goers will be presented with a potpourri of music, dance, fireworks, sound and light show and lots of other surprises, in the presence of many Belgian and international artists.

Party tracks can be found from 23.30 onwards in the Place du Luxembourg at a gigantic after-party.

All these events are free and broadcast live on several large Belgian and European television channels.

Make a good start to the summer and come along on Saturday 3 July to help celebrate the Belgian presidency!
