Belgium danced for Europe!

On Saturday the 3rd of July, the Belgian population put on a special celebration to mark the European Presidency. Public spaces in twelve towns across the kingdom were invaded by a crowd of amateur dancers who came together to share a moment of friendship to the tune of the song "Ici Bruxelles-Brussel hier" by the group Jaune Toujours.
After a few rehearsals, during which professional dancers taught Maria Clara Villa-Lobos’ routine to the people who had come along, everyone joined in with the same energy and spirit. This simple, shared pleasure really put a smile on people's faces!
The song written for the occasion celebrates the real Brussels: a melting-pot of languages and cultures, a lively, world-class city where it’s great to live and, of course, dance. The dance itself was created to honour the diversity and friendliness that are found everywhere in Belgium, in spite of the country’s differences.
The Presidency is delighted at the popular success of this event, which was broadcast live on Belgian TV channels and the Presidency’s website.
