Belgium closes out the Presidency with a deluge of fireworks and music!

This year again, the traditional New Year’s fireworks in Brussels was fired up at the Monts des Arts. Far more than simple pyrotechnical prowess, this year’s event was decked out in the colours of Europe, those of the Spanish, Belgian and Hungarian flags in particular.
The Belgian Presidency ended last night at midnight. Hungary now takes over the trio Presidency of the Council of the European Union which kicked off with Spain in the first half of 2010.
The twelve strokes of midnight announced the fireworks to strains of Spanish, Belgian and Hungarian music. All eyes lit up to a stunning light and sound show, a deluge of fireworks and music, a dual hand-off, from 2010 to 2011 and from Brussels to Budapest.
After the crackling ended, the DJ returned to his turntables and delighted the night owls, helping them dance through the early hours of January.
Fireworks and one last dance nodded to the end of the Belgian Presidency… and for a few seconds, a laser projected the following message at midnight: “Belgium @ Hungary: good luck ;-)”
