Belgian delegation blogs from Nagoya
From 18 to 29 October 2010 the tenth Conference of the Parties (COP 10) on the Convention on Biological Diversity will be held in Nagoya, Japan. You can follow all the news from Nagoya on the Belgian delegation's blog. It is recommended for anyone who wants a better understanding of the international political process about biodiversity or who wonders what effect biodiversity currently has on our day-to-day lives.
During the conference, Belgium, in its capacity of President of the Council of the European Union, will defend the European point of view. A special blog will have daily updates about the progress of the negotiations. You will also be given a glimpse into the different events and logistics connected to the Belgian presidency of the EU.
The blog will not only report on serious matters though. There is also room for anecdotes about life at COP 10 loose from the negotiations: the wellbeing of the Belgian delegation, its experience with Japanese culture, gastronomy and technology, etc.
You can also follow the Belgian delegation on Twitter.
About COP 10 in Nagoya
The tenth Conference of the Parties (COP) on the Convention on Biological Diversity will be held from 18 to 29 October 2010. The objective of the COP is to bring together the signatory parties to reach strategic decisions about the execution of the Convention. It can be compared with the 'COP Climate', the conference of the Parties for the Convention on Climate Change.
The COP 10 Biodiversity is the ideal opportunity to take stock of the international community's objective: put a stop to the world-wide loss of biodiversity by the end of 2010. It is certain this objective will not be met and that our biodiversity is in a critical phase.
The countries that signed the Convention will have to take ambitious and effective measures to diminish the different factors that affect biodiversity.
