2-3 October 2010: intense preparations for ASEM 8

News - 04/10/2010 By antoine.simon2

On Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October 2010, on the eve of the ASEM 8 Summit, ASEM partners gathered in Brussels at Senior Official level in order to finalize the preparations for the meeting of their leaders.

ASEM Coordinators Republic of Korea, Cambodia, European Commission and ASEM 8 Host Belgium held consultations on 2 October at the Castle ‘Val Duchesse’. The Senior Officials’ Meeting itself brought together the senior representatives of the 45 ASEM partners and new partners Australia, Russia and New Zealand at the renovated Egmont Palace in Brussels.

On the agenda were the final run-through of the summit proceedings and of the summit texts. Belgium, as the Host of the ASEM 8 Summit, welcomed with gratitude the spirit of compromise and of cooperation that produced convergence on the full set of proposals to be submitted to the Heads of State and of Government.
