Positive Visions for Biodiversity

from 16 November 2010 to 19 November 2010
09:00 - 18:00

During its annual conference organised under the Belgian Presidency of the European Council, the European Platform for Biodiversity Research (EPBRS) will try to outline a legitimate view of our future, taking into account the Millennium Development Goals and the targets set by the Convention on Biological Diversity, describing an achievable living world we would all like to live in. The scenarios and positive visions constructed at this meeting will be of global importance. They will be widely publicised and made available to European and International policy processes.

During the first two days (16-17 November), a large participatory meeting will develop inspirational, achievable and shared visions for our future and the Nature we want.  The following 2 days (18-19 November), the results of the discussions will be debated by EPBRS delegates and scientists to suggest a long-term science policy to enable society to move towards these positive visions, and outline options for other policies.

The scenarios and positive visions constructed at this meeting will be of global importance. They will be widely publicised and made available to European and International policy processes.

About 250 Participants will be selected from a wide range of professions and perspectives to provide an animated debate, they will come mainly from Europe but with representatives from other regions and especially from developing countries for the participatory phase. The purpose is to represent the collective views of influential stakeholders including scientists, industrialists, business people, artists, decision makers, media, NGOs etc. The second phase of the meeting will engage about 100 EPBRS delegates and invited experts.
