• Social integration: Federal Public Planning Service Social Integration, Fight Against Poverty, Social Economy and Big Cities Policy (except "Big Cities Policy")
• Supervision of Fedasil (in liaison with the Minister for Immigration and Asylum Policy and the Secretary of State for Immigration and Asylum Policy)

• Joined the Walloon Socialist Party (1984)
• Communal council in Hotton (1988 to date)
• Burgermeister of Hotton (1994 to date)
• Walloon Regional Minister for Employment and Training (July 2003 to July 2004)
• Walloon Regional Minister for Internal Affairs and the Civil Service (July 2004 to July 2009)
• Secretary of State for Social Integration and the Fight Against Poverty, assistant to the Minister for Social Affairs and Public Health, in charge of social integration (July 2009 to date)
