Network Meeting Competent Authorities on Pricing and Reimbursement
The rapidly evolving pharmaceutical landscape is a major challenge to all competent authorities responsible for the pricing and reimbursement of drugs. Even though in the first instance, this is a matter within the competence of individual member states, it has become clear that these authorities share the same concerns about striking a balance between viable financing, fair access of patients to important treatment and reasonable reward for valuable innovation.
The NM CAPR (Network Meeting Competent Authorities on Pricing and Reimbursement) will start off under Slovenia’s EU presidency, and will play both a strategic and a bridge-building role. The network’s objective is to identify and discuss current and future topics which fall within the member states’ common areas of interest.
Government experts from the EU/EEA member states responsible for decision-making on the pricing and reimbursement of drugs will be given the opportunity to share information, expertise and best practices/best policies and to exchange ideas with the other member states, experts from the European Commission Directorate General Sanco, Enterprise and Competition and external experts who will be invited depending on the topics being discussed.
In this way the network aims to achieve greater coordination of investments – for instance, in scientific assessment – and the optimisation of cooperation between the various member states and partners. To this end, the network will focus on technical know-how and expertise developed in various initiatives in the field of pricing and reimbursement such as PPRI, Pharma Forum, EunetHTA, etc.
The network will meet twice a year and be chaired by the member state holding the current presidency of the European Union, and vice-chaired by the previous and coming two presidencies and the European Commission.
