Move It! Festival Objects/Puppet Theatre
Move it! promises four days of puppetry in all its diversity: figurines, objects, table puppets, animated characters, shadows, menagerie… appearing at the different venues of the Puppet Centre, in nearby streets and in the main square of Tournai! Fun and laughter guaranteed thanks to puppet wizardry…
From 24 to 27 September 2010, Move it! invites the public to discover shows and the ‘small forms’ of object and puppet theatre at the different venues of the Puppet Centre: courtyard, garden, auditorium, marquee and around the site.
Walkabout performances, silent shows, street shows, object theatre, poetic theatre: there will be something for all tastes and all ages!
Participative events will give the public the chance to make or manipulate puppets.
To bring the art of puppetry to a wider audience, we’ll be inviting children from schools in the region and associations to produce a puppet which they will exhibit during a parade starting at the Puppet Centre and ending in the main square of Tournai. Puppets will be out in force as the festival takes over the main square of Tournai where there will be two free shows: ‘Chiming Clock’ by the Spanish company La Tal on Saturday 25 September and ‘Adam, the Laboratory Clown’ by the Les Chemins de Terre company on Monday 27 September, as part of the French Community festivities.
In 2010, for one week, the Move it! Festival will also be welcoming a young artist ‘in-residence’ (with technical and artistic support) to a puppet/object show. The aim of this initiative is to allow a young artist to finalise his or her project and present it to the public during the festival.
Two Puppet Centre exhibitions will also be open to the public during the festival: ‘The puppet enigma and in the footsteps of Bob Morane’ and ‘Puppets and Television’.
A traditional and ancestral art form, puppetry today is capable of all manner of inventions. Showing its tender, humorous and sometimes venomous sides, the subtle art of puppetry tickles the imagination, stirs the emotions and excites curiosity.
Move It! invites you to sample the delights of animation represented by contemporary object and puppet theatre, which is open to all forms.
Superb puppets, lead us willingly towards the fertile regions of the imagination.
