"Missing pEUrson" – European adventure quest in Brussels

1 July 2010
-

Take part in a fun adventure quest through Brussels' European district, complete with a prize-winning contest, a version for kids (also with prize-winning contest) and a photo competition.

With “Missing pEUrson” the not-for-profit organisation Ryckevelde is putting Brussels in the spotlight as capital of the European Union from July to November 2010. Participants can get to know the European institutions and their work in an informal way, discovering a little-known but beautiful part of Brussels, at the same time as enjoying a fun day out.

With “Missing pEUrson” the not-for-profit organisation Ryckevelde asks participants to hunt for the missing Eugène Van Ryckevelde. Complete with missing persons report and worried appeal from his wife, the campaign website www.youcanbe.eu provides all the necessary information to undertake this adventure quest in Brussels. In the instructions for the adventure quest participants learn about lots of aspects of European cooperation. Anyone who follows all the instructions for the adventure quest and discovers the location of Eugène Van Ryckevelde has the chance to win a prize. There are special questions and instructions for children accompanied by their parents on this adventure quest. So they can also compete for a cool prize! Finally, participants can also place an original group photograph of their tour on the campaign website. The most original (and most European) photo wins a prize.

This adventure quest is part of the “be.eu” campaign by the not-for-profit organisation Ryckevelde, which aims to inform citizens about the huge impact of Europe on our lives.

Practical
The route runs mainly through Brussels' European district. It starts at Brussels Schuman Station and ends at Brussels Central Station. The adventure quest is intended for everyone, for all ages, and runs from July to the end of November 2010. The winners will be announced at the start of December. Taking part is completely free of charge. You can download all the necessary documents, such as description of route and instructions from the campaign website.

Something for everyone
Everyone is welcome to join in! A "group" can consist of an adult organisation or a class, a family, an association, work colleagues, friends ... just join in!

It is also an adventure quest “with options”: children receive their own questions, and instructions for things to do are alternated with instructions for things to think about. This means that young groups can focus more on the active side of the adventure quest and less mobile groups on the instructions for things to think about. Every group is also able to adapt the length of the route to their preferences (or to the weather!). Both playful and educational, this adventure quest is the ideal way to discover (Europe in) Brussels!
