International Brigittines Festival

Every year the Brigittines Festival selects a theme that raises a new question and challenges the audience to shift its perspective. The theme of the 2010 festival will be "Societies of the night" and will evoke unlikely encounters and ambiguous atmospheres that uncover intriguing facets of identity and recognition. It will comprise 13 events and include 26 performances, 10 open houses and 1 video installation screening films.
As in previous years, at the end of summer and at the start of the season, the International Brigittines Festival will pursue its exploration of new languages of the theatre and contemporary forms.
Challenge
The challenge of the festival is to lead the audience through scenes which express strange languages and universes and unusual forms.
The festival comprises different events around a common theme, which are presented as food for thought, discovery or shared flights of fantasy.
Over the years, dance has acquired ever-increasing importance within the festival, most probably because the forms are freer and more creative.
Thematic festival
Every year the festival selects a theme that raises a new question and challenges the audience to shift its perspective by suggesting juxtapositions, emotional channels and literary avenues. Depending on the audience’s perception, it can create links between events which are very different in style, but which tackle similar subjects.

Night-Time Encounters
What special relationships are formed at night? Does the night change the presence of things by condensing everything we have experienced during the day? Who then steps into the spotlight? What mysteries and promises are in their minds? And what of night-time lovers who do not want the day to end?
A mix of contemporary dance, visual theatre and hybrid forms, the 2010 edition will present shows filled with ambiguity, an indeterminate dimension of time and desires, a lack of resolution among beings that perhaps is the harbinger of decisive actions…
Ironic atmospheres, unusual ceremonies, enquiries of a new kind, foolhardy behaviour, fatal images, unexpected meetings between people whom everything then conspires to pull apart: the spectacle of night-time encounters invites onto the stage the unexpected and the gripping, opening the doors of the imagination.
Since at night our inner space changes, we approach the shores of fantasy… Night marks the onset of dreamlike visions – enchantments or nightmares – made profound by the night, before the hour of daybreak returns us to the world of reality. (Patrick Bonté)
