Health security: lessons learned from the A(H1N1) pandemic in 2009 – better management of future health threats

This conference will provide an opportunity to discuss the lessons learned by the Member States, the European Commission and health agencies regarding the fight against the current pandemic, and will form part of a review of preparations by the EU in the event of a pandemic, as well as the intervention plan.
The conference will focus on 2 aspects:
- What difficulties have been encountered and how can they be dealt with?
- What lessons might be useful in the event of another health crisis?
One year after the A/H1N1 influenza virus pandemic broke out in 2009, the time has come to review the action taken, in order to learn lessons from past experiences and improve the Union’s reaction to future pandemics.
This two-day conference will be attended by representatives of all the Member States and international guests and will debate 4 topics :
- Surveillance during the pandemic
- Multisectoral aspects
- Medical countermeasures (antivirals and vaccines)
- Communication
The conclusions will be presented to the informal meeting of the EU Health Ministers the following week.
