Sommet UE-Brésil (Brasilia)

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission President José Manuel Barroso will represent the EU at the fourth annual bilateral summit between the EU and Brazil.
The holding of annual summits between the partners was first established in 2007, with their first high level summit taking place in Lisbon that year. This development was linked to a proposal from the EU to launch a Strategic Partnership with Brazil to further deepen the ties between the two partners. Central topics of the new partnership include effective multilateralism, climate change, sustainable energy, the fight against poverty, the Mercosur’s integration process and Latin America’s stability and prosperity.
The EU and Brazil established diplomatic relations in 1960, and have close historical, cultural, economic and political ties.
