13 years ago the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the 15 Member States of the European Union signed the Treaty of Amsterdam. Important amendments were a reform of the common foreign and security policy (CFSP), the creation of a Community employment policy, the enabling of closer cooperation between Member States, the extension of qualified-majority voting and the transfer to the Communities of some of the areas in the field of justice and home affairs (JHA).

Besides, the EEC became the European Community.
