European SME Summit

18 November 2010
09:00

The world is constantly evolving. Policy makers rethink, redesign and rebuild our (economic) daily life. One of the most important “recent” transformations is the greening of our society and economy. A transition that will only be successful if we manage to bring SMEs at the heart of the new EU2020-strategy.

1) Sensibilisation

Entrepreneurs identify green economy with “burden”. This summit wants to show entrepreneurs the variety of opportunities of green economy (innovation, internationalisation,…).
This summit wants to show SME entrepreneurs that “green economy” is not a privilege for the bigger companies.
This summit wants to convince policy makers of what SMEs are capable of.

2) Push SMEs and policy makers towards action
This summit wants to show through best practices that SMEs are playing a key role in this (r)evolution. Even more, they have to play their role to realise the European ambitions.

3) Policy making
This summit delivers concrete policy recommendations, based on “green” best practices from an SME point of view.

Thematic pillars of the programme:

1. Green economy: excellence of SME niche players. The SME as producer (in niches) but also as energy consumer.

2. Green economy: improved SME competitiveness through eco-management. Also in non-energy related sectors we find inspiring examples of how working “green” means an economic boost for a company.

3. Green economy: a world full of opportunities. the “green” SME of today is the multinational of tomorrow. Green economy as the engine for internationalisation.

Through the 3 chapters: innovation and creativity. Best practices will show that the size of a company is not important when talking about innovation and creativity.
