European quarter discovery mission
Architecture and urban planning in the European Quarter: past, present and future. Many artists have resided in the Leopold Quarter in the past. The project aims to show visitors the past and future potential of the area. During the Belgian presidency of the European Union, a discovery group will be set up in the European Quarter, accompanied by an exhibition.
The purpose is to demonstrate that the area could become livelier if there was a multifaceted suburban life there alongside the administrative office life that currently predominates.
The mission will illustrate the profound transformation that has taken place over the last 10 years, and its ambition to become a European Eco-Quarter by combining a European and international centre of work, a centre of diverse accommodation and a centre for culture and well-being that is open to all.
The exhibition will present the European Quarter through the eyes of different artists who have lived in the Quarter, such as Rodin, Wiertz and Ensor – as well as contemporary work and projects which envision the future Quarter.
