"Euh!! rope…": a joint production by ’Télévision du Monde’ and the Audiovisual Services of the European Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission.
Series of 20 8-minute programmes
Theme: introduction for citizens, associations and teachers to the history, institutions and cultural dimensions of Europe.
1. An original television initiative.
Each programme presents an exclusive interview with a high-ranking European figure including presidents, commissioners, MEPs, ambassadors, chairmen of committees, senior civil servants, etc, conducted by a member of civil society involved in citizenship, associations or teaching who will play the part of journalist for the day.
Stage design will feature topical images, video archives, photos and high-quality stills or animated artwork.
2. An odyssey giving pride of place to questions from citizens to increase awareness and understanding of Europe.
Questions are put by individuals representing ’Télévision du Monde’: they adhere to the objectives of the Founding Text and Charter of the association. They are therefore both young and old people, immigrants or natives, experienced or novices, etc. Each programme is meticulously prepared in order to fully meet the objectives of the project.
For information, ’Télévision du Monde’ makes educational and campaigning TV programmes unrelated to polemical or ’hot’ topical issues.
The approach is therefore essentially informative and educational with a view to giving citizens more say in their institutional environment; in this case, Europe.
The programme has a three-tier structure: three questions are put to the European figure, opening up a non-conventional dialogue:
- Presentation of the citizen’s question (a clearly defined subject). I note that…, I have observed…, I wonder if…
-
Involvement and motivation(s) on the part of the personality to reply to the question with a considered response.
"Who are you?", "What is your contribution?","…successes and obstacles?" -
Proposal by the European figure of a concrete, on-the-ground illustration.
"Can you back up what you say with an example that affects citizens?"
