Discovery tours of European projects

1 September 2010
-

Throughout the Belgian Presidency of the EU, the Brussels-Capital Region will be offering tours of discovery in the canal area (guided, with a reservation, or unaccompanied) of projects cofinanced by the European Union.

Centre Dansaert, Les Ateliers des Tanneurs, La Lustrerie, Recyclart, Jazzstation, Wiels, Pianofabriek, La Maison des Cultures de Molenbeek, … A whole host of emblematic locations which are now an integral part of Brussels life!

But did you know that their restoration was made possible by Europe? Europe and the Region are investing in the future of Brussels in partnership with the municipalities, the State, the Communities and private and public bodies in Brussels.

Since 1994, more than a hundred projects have been supported to improve the economic impetus of the Region, the quality of life, training and employment in the so-called "more difficult" districts.

The Bellevue building, the Anderlecht slaughterhouses, the Anderlecht veterinary school, the Institut des Arts et Métiers, etc.
Between now and 2013: 5 000 new training places in state-of-the-art areas, better access to employment and self-employment, 300 new places at day nurseries, an environmental unit, more attractive districts, etc. This is the ambition set by the Brussels government in selecting 36 projects, representing an investment of €160 million.

Stroll around the Canal
All these initiatives will be concentrated around the canal area. It is there that we suggest that you take a stroll. To visit an alternative Brussels, to view the concrete achievements of European solidarity, to discover districts that are lively and full of contrasts where improvements are sometimes still needed but can already be perceived.

Unaccompanied or guided tour
You can explore on your own or in a group whenever you choose thanks to a free brochure available in various locations in Brussels, or you can make a reservation and be accompanied by a guide. All options are possible!

On foot, by bicycle or by any other "sustainable" means.

These visits are available from July to December 2010 in French, Dutch and English.
