Customs Union Group (Legislation and Customs Policy)
Every member state charged with the alternating Presidency of the European Union traditionally organises a meeting of the Customs Union Group (Customs Legislation and Customs Policy) outside Brussels. This event brings together the customs ministerial advisors from the 27 member states and representatives from the Commission, the Council and the Legal Service. This meeting is an excellent opportunity to build links between colleagues in a pleasant atmosphere.
The Customs Union Group of the Council of the European Union is charged with the handling of questions about customs legislation and customs policy. The group studies the proposals formulated by the Commission. Examples of dossiers that have been handled by the Customs Union Group are regulations regarding counterfeiting and pirating, raw materials for drugs, the Community customs code, the protocol for illegal tobacco trade, etc.
The Customs Union Group is also responsible for the coordination of the meetings that are held by separate international bodies (World Customs Organisation, World Trade Organisation, ASEM, etc.)
