The European Union unanimously adopts a new industrial policy under the Presidency of Jean-Claude Marcourt
Jean-Claude Marcourt, Minister for the Economy, was successful in getting his Industry colleagues to pass the conclusions of the new European Union Industrial Policy. The conclusions were passed unanimously during the Competitiveness Council for industry which the Walloon Minister will chair through December 31st.
European industry and the challenge of industrial change
Industrial transformation was at the heart of the conference held by Minister Jean-Claude Marcourt on the premises of the Cristallerie du Val Saint-Lambert in Seraing, on November 15th and 16th. Jean-Claude Marcourt, current president of the Competitiveness Council for industry, made a significant contribution to the conclusions to be published by the European Ministers for Industry following their next meeting on November 25th.
Forum: Valorisation of agri-food and agricultural innovations and Europe-Africa partnerships
The Wallonia-Brussels Delegation to Dakar, the Institute of Food Technology (ITA) as a centre of excellence in West Africa, and the leading Research and Development Centre of Senegal, in collaboration with numerous Senegalese and international partners, are organising a Forum on the Valorisation of scientific and technological innovations in the area of the agri-food industry and agricultural resources. This Forum will be held in Dakar from 9 to 11 November 2010.
Member States are relying on innovation
This was the conclusion of Jean-Claude Marcourt as he brought to a close the Competitiveness Council on industry which ended on Tuesday 12th October in Luxembourg and whose debates were entirely devoted to the Union for Innovation. This is a flagship initiative of the Commission aimed at relaunching the European Union's competitiveness within the context of the EU 2020 strategy.

Within the framework of his presidency of the Competiveness Council, industry sector, the Minister for Economic Affairs Jean-Claude Marcourt opened the conference on the energy challenges confronting European industry.
A saving of 7 billion euros for SMEs
The first legislative success for the Belgian Presidency: Jean-Claude Marcourt, in his capacity as President of the European Competitiveness Council for industry, welcomed the fact that the Belgian Presidency has today been given a mandate by the Council to reach an agreement with the European Parliament on a flagship directive for the Small Business Act, that is to say, a directive on combating late payment in commercial transactions.

The Industry Ministers’ meeting opened with a speech by Michel Wurth, Arcelor Mittal’s CEO for Europe. His speech focused on the globalisation of the economy and its impact on value chains and the competitiveness of the European Union. The subjects discussed by the Ministers and delegations related, in particular, to the European Union’s new industrial policy.
Informal Joint Council of European Research and Industry Ministers
The objective of this working session is to draw conclusions and recommendations in relation to the future European Research and Innovation Plan and to supplement the conclusions of the Council on this matter. During this session, the Ministers for Research and for Industry will examine the latest issues.
