Breakfast Time! History of breakfast both home and away

As the first meal of the day, breakfast has taken very different forms since ancient times. Whether it’s bread and wine, a bowl of rice, a full English or a Continental breakfast, our morning habits reflect our cultural identity; while we forge them as children, it’s still a genuine melting pot of influences, some of them remote.
With the help of genuine artefacts, displayed in a surprising and impressive way, the visitor will travel around both Europe and the world. Interaction and amusement are scheduled from the time you jump out of bed!
Breakfast time! History of breakfast both home and away, the second major temporary exhibition at the MBMA, opens on 17 September 2010. As the first meal of the day, breakfast takes very different forms depending on the country and the point in time. Whether it’s a bowl of rice, a full English or a Continental breakfast, we forge our morning habits as children and they reflect our cultural identity. However, the evolution of breakfast throughout the ages has at the same time created a genuine melting pot of influences, some remote.
With the help of genuine artefacts (vessels, furniture and various depictions), displayed in a surprising and educational way, the visitor will be able to travel the world. Interaction and amusement are scheduled from the time you jump out of bed!
Alongside the normal guided tours, the MBMA is offering a range of culinary workshops for groups (breads in ancient times, the Victorian muffin, the basics of the continental breakfast, etc.) backed up by a yearly programme of activities aimed at individual families (long historical breakfasts, conference-breakfasts, presentations by health professionals, kitchen work placements, etc.).
At the MBMA, children always receive special attention. The museum’s pets, Moulinot and Farinot, will be joined by a new friend, Croissanto, and together they will guide the youngest ones through the Breakfast time! exhibition.
