Adopted in 2005, the Walloon Marshall Plan channelled more than one billion Euros to the five structural areas most beneficial in terms of development:
• the implementation of focal points of competitiveness;
• incentives for the creation of activities;
• lightening the fiscal load on businesses;
• strengthening research and innovation;
• promotion of skills for employment.
The method of governance introduced by the Marshall Plan (targeting, clarity of objectives, continuous guidance and periodic evaluation) produced results that were applauded by all economic players, who would like this system to remain in place. This is the role of the Green Marshall Plan 2.0 which updated this strategy in 2009, strengthening the sustainable dimension and cooperation between Wallonia and Brussels and affirming a strong, open and dynamic Walloon identity.
