Coordination of the European activities of the federal and different federated areas of Belgium results in a smooth-running mechanism which is active on a daily basis. This finds expression in the EU Presidency, where for each configuration of the Council and each of its working groups, the programme of the Belgian Presidency is finalised as a result of a partnership between Regions, Communities and the Federal State, each according to its own jurisdiction. Within this framework, Wallonia and the French Community will have the following responsibilities:
- Wallonia will represent the Belgian Presidency in matters pertaining to “Economic, social and territorial cohesion ” and “Industry”
- the French Community will represent the Belgian Presidency in respect of “Culture and Audiovisual Arts”.
Wallonia and the French Community will also play an active part in the organisation of the Belgian Presidency overall, alongside the Federal State, Flanders, the Brussels-Capital Region and the German-speaking Community. Wallonia and the French Community will organise and chair informal ministerial meetings devoted to Economic, social and territorial cohesion, Industry and culture. In addition to ministerial meetings and those attended by European experts, key subjects of the presidency will also be developed through a packed schedule of theme-based seminars and conferences initiated by Wallonia and the French Community designed to promote exchange and reflection on challenges facing the Union.
