With more than 530,000 hectares of woodland, i.e. 82% of all forested areas in Belgium, Wallonia has an absolutely unique heritage. This green gold – the Ardennes – is an unrivalled haven of regeneration, and the basis of a flourishing green tourism sector. Protection of the biological diversity of nature goes hand in hand with sustainable exploitation of the forest.
There are six nature reserves to discover: les Hautes-Fagnes-Eifel, the valleys of la Burdinale and la Mehaigne, the Attert valley, the valley of Viroin-Hermeton, the region of Les Collines and the Hainaut plains of Escaut. All offer an exceptional setting for towns which are full of history and numerous easily accessible areas of activity.
