Flanders combines science and fishing
On 9 November, in the presence of EU Commissioner Maria Damanaki, Flemish Minister-President Kris Peeters opened a two-day symposium on the collaboration of science and fisheries. As European Chair of the EU Fisheries Council, Minister-President Peeters is hoping for concrete measures for sustainable fisheries and recommendations for the renewed European fisheries policy scheduled for 2013.
Flanders on the move
On 21 and 22 October, at the initiative of Flemish Minister for Sport Philippe Muyters, an informal gathering of all the European Sport Ministers was held together with the competent EU Commissioner Vassiliou. Minister Muyters placed various topics on the agenda, including the importance of a European policy on doping and the responsibility that Flanders would like to take in this.

Plea for strong European stand on biodiversity
2010 is the International Year of Biodiversity. In view of the Belgian EU Presidency, Flanders wants to play the role of pioneer. Last Friday in Genk, Flemish Minister for Environment, Nature and Culture Joke Schauvliege made a plea for strong European stands on biodiversity. Flanders treats Europe to cuberdons
Today, on the stroke of two o'clock, Flanders treated all EU citizens to cuberdons! To celebrate the Belgian EU Presidency, Flanders selected 27 pairs of young people to be ambassadors for Flanders. Campaign Launch
Flemish minister-president Kris Peeters emphasises the importance of good communication, both internationally and to the Flemish population, at the launch of the EU presidency. A campaign has been started, with the slogan "Flanders shines in Europe shines in Flanders", to bring Europe closer to the Flemish people.
