Flanders treats to cuberdons
18 September 2010
All European capitals
27 teams of young people are to be given the opportunity to win a competition to become an ambassador for Flanders in a European capital city. The winners will receive an extended break to a European capital and on 18th September they will be treating passers-by to ‘Flemish’ cuberdons (traditional Belgian sweets) in a central location in the city, along with flyers offering people there the chance to win a break in Flanders. Read more about 'Flanders treats to cuberdons'.

The Week of Taste
11 - 21 November 2010
The Week of Taste is a (culinary) cultural event in Flanders, which aims to bring together as many people as possible in a celebration of taste and food culture in all its forms and varieties. With over a thousand events every year, both large and small, the Week of Taste has something to offer for everyone. The Week of Taste is held in Flanders and Brussels in November. Every year a “City of Taste” is chosen to stage the Week of Taste and a “Godfather of Taste” is asked to supervise it. This year Aalst is to be the City of Taste and chef Wouter Keersmaekers is to take on the role of “Godfather”. For 2010, FARO (the Flemish interface centre for cultural heritage) is going to focus on Spain.
- The Commissioners Get Cooking: This year we are inviting the EU Commissioners to cook during the Week of Taste. The Commissioners will have the choice of preparing a traditional dish from their respective country, with or without local Flemish produce, or conjuring up a European menu.
- Expatatas: For hundreds of years the potato has had a profound influence on culinary culture(s) in Europe. To mark Belgium's Presidency of the EU, the Week of Taste will provide the public with an opportunity, online and through events staged throughout Flanders and Brussels, to discover how the potato found its way to Europe and how it influenced the culinary cultures of the various Member States. There are some 150,000 Europeans from different countries (expats) living in Brussels and Expatatas will give them the opportunity to showcase their favourite potato dish to Flanders.
