Professional career

• Lawyer (with the practice De Beir-Vanraes) with the Brussels bar association from 1980 to
     2009, and was President of the Universitaire Associatie Brussel (UAB)
• In July 2009, the Brussels Minister of Finance and the Budget, Guy Vanhengel (Open Vld), moved to the Federal government. Jean-Luc Vanraes (Open Vld) succeeded Vanhengel on 16 July 2009 as Brussels Minister, also in charge of finance and the budget

Studies

• Studied law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (graduated in 1980)
