Brussels is the institutional centre of Europe and owes a large part of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to the European and international presence. The city has a large number of multinational company decision-making centres. They have been attracted to the region due to its geographical location, the quality of the real estate property and the labour, and they often set up their administrative, financial or research departments here.
Brussels comes in second place among the European regions in terms of GDP per inhabitant. Its employment and investment levels are higher than those in other European cities of a comparable size.
