As a bilingual region with legislative powers within the Belgian Federal State, Bruxelles-Capitale Region is playing a role in the drafting of Belgian positions at European level and represents Belgium in the Council of the European Union in matters relating to its regional competences.
During the six-month Belgian Presidency, it will chair certain councils and organise a number of conferences, seminars and meetings. As part of the Belgian programme, these events will highlight Brussels' priorities. These are based around five areas linked to the Europe 2020 strategy.
Bruxelles-Capitale is:
- a dynamic region
- at the heart of European politics
- innovating in R&D
- inclusive
- urban and sustainable.
Large-scale public initiatives also emphasise the European character of the capital region.
