Belgium dances for Europe!

On 1 July, Belgium is taking on the role of the president of the Council of the European Union and this is of course being celebrated extensively throughout the country.
On Saturday 3 July 2010, there is "Belgium dances for Europe!" – an original and grand "Modern Ball" organised by the government. Professional dancers will teach members of the general public a dance in public spaces in twelve Belgian cities. After a few rehearsals, the members of the general public will perform the dance they have been taught simultaneously in the twelve cities.
Everybody is very welcome to come and dance in: Antwerp, Bruges, Brussels, Charleroi, Eupen, Ghent, Hasselt, Leuven, Liege, Louvain-la-Neuve, Namur and Tournai.
This massive event is being broadcast live on television. The spectacle starts at 8 pm and finishes at 9.45 pm.
People will dance to the songs “ICI Bruxelles / Brussel hier" Here by Jaune Toujours with choreography by Maria Clara Villa-Lobos. "Brussel hier/Ici Bruxelles" is a dance that celebrates Brussels and Europe, of which Brussels is the capital city. The dance is inspired by the music of the Brussels group Jaune Toujours and underlines the multi-cultural nature of the city of Brussels and the sometimes ‘surreal’ atmosphere this creates. By referring to the Belgian presidency of the European Union, music and dance pat tribute to the diversity and conviviality, from Liege to Bruges, from Antwerp to Namur, despite the differences…
Bal Moderne © is a production by VZW Arenal. The organisation of this dance event takes place in collaboration with the communities, regions, the twelve cities, the National Lottery ad Belgacom.
