Belgian accounts on the construction of Europe (1945-2010) – subject collection
To mark the Belgian presidency of the EU Council during the second half of 2010, the Virtual Resource Centre for Knowledge about Europe — CVCE, a public institution based in Luxembourg, is dedicating a subject portfolio as part of its digital library based on the historical relations between Belgium and the European Community since the Second World War. The portfolio wholly participates in the development of new methods of acquiring knowledge (research and education) by using new information technologies. It will provide all historical documents and original interviews with participants and direct observers in Belgium during the process of European unification.
As a Luxemburgish public institution under the Ministry of Higher Learning and Research, the principle missions of the Virtual Resource Centre for Knowledge about Europe (CVCE) is to create, issue and share knowledge concerning the history of the construction of Europe, in its historical and institutional aspects, through the use of communications and information technologies.
The main activity of the Centre lies in developing the European NAvigator (ENA) library, through the Internet www.ena.lu. Organised on the basis of scientific and educational criteria, ENA offers teachers, researchers and citizens a particularly trustworthy form of information support.
With a view to the Belgian presidency of the EU Council, the CVCE is dedicating a subject portfolio as part of its digital library based on the historical relations between Belgium and the European Community since the Second World War
This portfolio will include a large number of historical documents, many of which are previously unpublished, as well as a series of original interviews with players and direct observers in Belgium during the process of European unification, such as political officials, diplomats and central bankers. A standard example in the development of new forms of acquiring knowledge, this portfolio largely comes under research and education. It will permit an innovative evaluation of diverse knowledge, particularly the intangible heritage of oral, audio and audiovisual sources.
This subject portfolio will ultimately provide the ideal means of offering a host of information in an historical perspective on subjects such as the activity and workings of the European Union, the role of a rotating presidency, the past and present ambitions of Belgium and the decision-making process in European affairs.
