ASEM Senior Officials’ Meeting

On 4-5 October 2010, Belgium will host the eighth summit of ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting). Belgium is organising a meeting of ASEM Senior Officials on 3 October 2010, in order to further the success of this landmark event for the Belgian Presidency, and to decide the remaining elements of this summit, which brings together the Heads of State and Government of the ASEM partners.
The meeting of ASEM senior officials (Asia-Europe Meeting) from 3 October 2010, will focus on the final details of the summit agenda; it will also take a last look at the texts for submission for approval by the European and Asian Heads of State and Government. It is largely expected that the texts will concern the resolution of the economic and financial crisis, the promotion of sustainable development, with particular attention on climate change, maritime piracy, as well as a series of regional political issues that all affect the stability and security of Europe and Asia. In one or more joint declarations, the ASEM partners, who represent almost 60% of the world population and 50% of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP), will express their common positions. They will also strive to restore confidence in the relationships that exist between the two regions and their peoples.
