Informal Energy Council: "Fuelling a secure, low-carbon and affordable energy future for Europe"
Brussels is hosting the Informal Energy Council this 6th and 7th September 2010. Three topics will be discussed during the informal meeting of ministers: the issue of consumers, the infrastructure package, and energy efficiency. Commissioner Oettinger will use the opportunity to provide an update on the current status of discussions on ocean-based drilling platform safety. The EU Ministers will also discuss the succession of the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency.

Schengen: from anonymous border community to world famous town
14 June 1985. Ministers of Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg and the Netherlands sign a historic agreement on pleasure boat Princesse Marie Astrid moored in the Luxembourg town of Schengen. The objective of this agreement is the gradual abolishment of border checks on common borders. In short, citizens are free to travel. The agreement comes into force ten years later. These days, you can travel from Faro to Lapland without being checked at the border even once.
