8th Asia-Europe People’s forum

from 1 October 2010 to 5 October 2010
10:00 - 17:00

The 8th Asia-Europe People’s Forum (AEPF 8), which will be held from 2nd through 5th October 2010, is a parallel event to the ASEM-8 Summit. The forum is being organised by the National Organising Committee (NOC, Belgium) together with the International Organising Committee (IOC, Europe and Asia). Its goal is to enable Asian and European civil society representatives to formulate recommendations. Prior to AEPF 8, on 1st October 2010, trade union organisations will hold a Trade Union Day together with Asian participants.

The goal of the Asia-Europe People’s Forum, (AEPF) is to bring together representatives of European and Asian civil society (NGOs, trade union organisations, social movements) to promote cooperation and provide a platform to enable them to voice their recommendations for improving relations between Europe and Asia.

The main points of AEPF 8 are: (1) the social consequences of trade and investment, in particular free trade agreements, (2) decent work and social protection, (3) food sovereignty and (4) climate change.

The forum is being organised by the National Organising Committee (NOC) under the leadership of CNCD-11.11.11, the co-chairmanship of Belgian trade union organisations and with the cooperation of the International Organising Committee (IOC).

Prior to the forum, on 1st October 2010, the ACV-CSC, ABVV-FGTB and ACLVB-CGSLB trade unions will organise a Trade Union Day. The goal of this day is to bring together the representatives of European and Asian trade union organisations and international organisations to discuss social policy in Europe and Asia and to formulate joint positions and proposals. The positions and proposals will be presented during AEPF 8.
